Children AIDS Fund Uganda (CAFU) extends gratitude to the United States, PEPFAR, CDC, and the government of Uganda for their support in providing comprehensive HIV/AIDS care, treatment, and support services since July 2012. Special thanks to New Hope Partners for their guidance, and to all staff and beneficiaries for their dedication.
This report outlines the successful execution of oral dental health initiatives for children with HIV/AIDS, conducted by the Maximus Foundation and Children’s AIDS Fund Uganda (CAFU) in collaboration with RUN dental services. Operating across 7 CAFU-supported health facilities in Uganda, the project reached 784 children between July 2015 and January 2016.
Based on previous findings highlighting prevalent dental complications due to poor oral hygiene and limited services, the project prioritized health education and regular tooth brushing. Site-based training for healthcare workers (HCWs) was emphasized for long-term impact. With collaboration from RUN-DENTAL, each site selected staff for training and organized examinations, education, and treatment sessions for children.
The Project Preserving the African Family in the Face of HIV/AIDS through Prevention, initiated by Children’s AIDS Fund (CAF) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in 2005, aimed to reach 350,000 youths aged 10-24 with interventions promoting abstinence before marriage and faithfulness within marriage. Implemented from 2005 to 2010, it engaged youth in activities focusing on life skills, HIV prevention, and emphasized sexual responsibility to reduce risky behavior.
